*Britney's Bio!*Britney Jean Spears was born on December 2, 1981 in Kentwood, Louisiana. It didn't take very long for her parents, Lynne and Jamie, to see that they had a future pop princess on their hands. By the age of three, Britney, decked out in fancy clothes and make-up, was singing Whitney Houston songs in front of the mirror. A year later, Britney's audience would expand beyond her household after she was admitted into the choir of the local baptist church. The four-year old would sing many solos in front of an awed crowd. When she was eight years old, Britney would actually fail an audition for the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club due to her young age. The producers of the show recommended Britney to a New York talent show, however, and she made her Off-Broadway debut in a production of Ruthless in 1991. At this point, Britney's mother and sister had moved with her to The Big Apple. In 1992, 11-year old Britney was asked to join The Mickey Mouse Club. It was during this time that her stardom spread and her relationships were formed with Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. After two years with the show, Britney returned to private high school in Kentwood. Her singing career could not be slowed down, though, as a demo tape is forwarded to Jive Records and, after singing Houston's "I Have Nothing" in front of 10 representatives from the company, 15-year old Britney Spears is signed to a record contract. A year later, Britney records her first album, "... Baby One More Time." The first single of the CD becomes such a success that a fan club forms before the music video can even be shot. In 1998, Britney goes on tour as the opening act for *NSync and both her single and her album shoot to number-one on the Billboard charts. Britney's true staying power was solidified in 2001 with the release of her second album, "Oops! ... I Did It Again." This record also debuts at the top spot in the US, UK and across Europe. Britney's subsequent CDs, "Britney" and the current hit, "In the Zone," simply further the star's popularity. |
